More About The Woodland
It started with a simple need: Due to declining health, Dr. Ray Moore’s aging mother was in need of 24/7 care. He wanted to keep her close to the community that she had lived in her entire life. With no viable options nearby, Dr. Moore, a respected Farmville physician, stepped up to the challenge.
He could not have done it alone. With the assistance of other community members from a wide variety of professions—a lawyer, a real estate agent and a banker, to name a few—the Southside Community Nursing Home opened its doors. The new facility, named Holly Manor, contained 60 beds and was completed in March of 1970.
Quickly reaching capacity, a new wing was added only 4 years after opening, providing an additional 60 beds. Brookview opened next, geared towards those requiring assisted-living care, meeting the community’s growing need for a variety of professional and compassionate senior care.
