The District itself has a compact senior living market: a number of assisted living residences and memory care communities inside the city, a large independent living segment including subsidised senior apartments, and a long list of home care agencies. Most larger campuses sit just over the line in Maryland and Virginia.
Northwest DC, Friendship Heights and the Capitol Hill area have the city's established residences. Across the border, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Silver Spring and Rockville in Maryland and Alexandria, Arlington and Fairfax in Virginia carry most of the volume. Baltimore, Silver Spring, Alexandria, Rockville, Fairfax and Bethesda have their own pages on Seniors Places.
Humid summers, mild winters with occasional snow, and Metro access that matters to residents who still get around on their own. MedStar Georgetown, George Washington University Hospital and Sibley Memorial (Johns Hopkins) serve the city. DC Health licenses assisted living residences; Maryland and Virginia license theirs differently, so a community a few miles away may follow different rules on staffing and care levels.
Ask which jurisdiction licenses the community and what that allows for memory care and higher care needs. Costs in the District are among the highest in the country; a move a few miles into Maryland or Virginia often changes the monthly rate materially, so compare across all three pages.
