Other than the girl at the front desk gave us the completely wrong room and it took us awhile to find who we were there for, it was a nice place. The people seemed to be as happy as they can be. And the staff seemed nice and friendly.
ADDITION 10/272025 This place is good but the main issues remain where ever your loved one is places. I sat with a group of ladies and they all agreed to the following....There is not enough staff to insure safety and care for their stations. This is an epidemic in all workplaces since Covid but I noticed it before Covid in all of the other places mom had been. This is her 6th placement in 5 facilities. This too is common, a need to change places to see if another facility would be a better fit. The group agreed on one MAJOR issue, when they hit the call light it can take from 45 minutes to hours for someone to come help them. One lady said she needed turned in her bed and that previous night she wasn't turned at all, the light stayed on all night. I didn't find that common but, my mother has fallen from her bed two times and that scares me. The other topic was horrible institutional food. Everything is canned, premade packaged and tasteless. I wanted to see what they ate at each of the places mom had been and the day of the gathering I watched as the group had lunch. Hospital food is hard to eat at best but this was a huge disappointment. My mother had eaten healthy enough to stave off diabetes for over 50 years so this was one of the hardest things for her. It seemed it was right up there with lack of lights being answered. I understand the need for more help. I understand the need for attentiveness and know there are others that need help so one must wait ones turn. I also understand the food issues but the last one can be helped by a GOOD nutritionist, not a guideline for institutions to use, get by with, and protect their bottom line. Anyway, this place has been better than the others we tried. They have other short falls and other bonus points. Everything depends on making sure wherever you place your loved one, you feel their health, safety and happiness is cared for. Previous post from 3 or so years ago.... I moved my mother to this facility because the previous one was a nightmare. I had 17 issues with the other facility in 8 months! Valpo Care and Rehab has brought my mother out a a depressing state from the lack of rehab, lack of taking care of her needs and being where she said, "they don't care about me." Since mom has been there, she restarted rehab, has friends, eats better, her condition is more stable and I don't have to worry about her at VCR. Moving my mom to VCR was the best decision I have made for my mom since the start of her medical issues.
Under the current administration in the building, I give this facility all 5 stars. The building is always clean and free of odor. The residents are very well cared for. They are always clean and in good spirits. The culinary experience is amazing. The chef is really doing a fantastic job. The Nurses and aides alike are very caring and always supportive. There is very little to no agency staff working in the building. My experience has been nothing short of amazing!
Good facility. Can use a few improvements, yes; but other than that, it’s a GOOD facility.
