Scottsdale is the upscale end of the Phoenix market, with resort-style independent living and assisted living campuses, strong memory care, and a large number of small licensed assisted living homes tucked into residential neighbourhoods. Prices run higher than the rest of the Valley for the larger communities, while the small homes stay closer to the metro average.
North Scottsdale along Shea and the Loop 101 has most of the newer campuses; McCormick Ranch and the Old Town area have established communities close to shopping and medical offices. Phoenix, Mesa, Peoria and Glendale are all within easy reach and have their own pages on Seniors Places.
Expect long, very hot summers and busy winters when seasonal residents return. HonorHealth runs several hospitals in Scottsdale and the Mayo Clinic campus sits just across the city line in north Phoenix, which draws families with complex medical needs. Arizona licenses assisted living homes (ten residents or fewer) and centers separately, each at supervisory, personal or directed care levels, and ALTCS, the state Medicaid program, covers care for those who qualify.
Resort amenities are easy to show on a tour; ask instead about staffing at night, how care levels are priced, and what happens when a resident needs directed care. Ask whether the monthly rate includes the care package or whether care is billed on top.
